The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand has approved a plan to seek bids for $561m worth of civil construction works for an extension to Bangkok's elevated rail system.
The 12.6km extension of the green line will connect Bangkok's suburbs to the south-eastern province of Samutprakarn.
The civil works for the project will be divided into two contracts, where the first contract worth THB14.79bn ($480.8m) involves the construction of key infrastructure and seven stations, and is scheduled to come up for bidding in June.
The terms and conditions of the second contract worth THB2.45bn ($79.8m) are currently under revision.
The MRTA will select successful firms and sign the contracts for the deals between August and September 2011. Commercial operations of the extension will commence by May 2016.
