Kiewit Pacific will begin work on the $5.5bn rail transit system in Honolulu in the US state of Hawaii from 22 February this year.
The 20-mile elevated rail system will run along North-South Road in Kapolei, connecting East Kapolei with Ala Moana Centre featuring 21 stations.
Kiewit Pacific received a $483m contract from the Honolulu city last year to build the first phase of the project from East Kapolei to Pearl City.
The Federal Transit Administration cleared the environmental report for the project last month, while the City Council also granted the city a special management area permit for the project.
The city also plans to conduct archaeological surveys along the rail route before the final phase of the project, while an archaeological survey of the first phase has already been conducted, according to staradvertiser.com.
