France Funds Urban Rail Projects

The French Government has allotted €590m ($798.5m) for 78 urban transport projects in 54 conurbations outside the Paris region.

The package covers funds for 29 light rail projects in 11 cities for building 152km of new lines.

Some of the major contributions include €54m ($73m) for Nice Line 2, €36m ($48.7m) for the Bruay – Béthune – Beuvry line, €30.6m ($41m) for Besancon Line 1 and €19.3m ($26m) towards four extensions in Lyon.

Projects in Bordeaux, Marseilles, Nantes, Montpelier, Strasbourg, Toulouse and Tours also received grants for urban rail projects.

Rennes will receive €90.7m ($122.7m) from the government for the construction of Metro Line B, while €9.1m ($12m) is allocated for the upgrade of Metro Line 1 in the city of Lille, according to railjournal.
