Contractor Soil Mechanics will begin site and structural investigations work this week for the construction of the Borders Railway in Scotland.
Upon completion, the railway, worth ВЈ235m ($378m), will re-establish passenger railway services from Edinburgh through Midlothian to Tweedbank in the Scottish Borders.
The site investigation will expand on the original site investigation, undertaken to support the development of the specimen design, and will also provide bidders accurate information to predict project costs.
Midlothian Council will also take up ground clearance work on 11 rural areas along the route.
The railway project will be delivered by Transport Scotland in partnership with the City of Edinburgh, Midlothian and the Scottish Borders Council.
