UK Station Receives Approval for New Platform

11 February 2011

Network Rail will begin work to build a new island platform at Cambridge station in the UK, following approval from Cambridge City Council.

The ВЈ16.7m ($26.8m) scheme will also involve the construction of a covered footbridge and lifts, adding two new 270m bi-directional platforms for trains to arrive and depart in either direction.

The platforms are crucial to train operator National Express East Anglia's plans to improve train services and provide more seats for passengers on the West Anglia route in 2011.

It will also allow the introduction of a fleet of 30 longer National Express East Anglia trains on key commuter services between Cambridge and London Liverpool Street services this year.

The work will commence in April and will be complete by December.
