The Italian city of Milan has signed a €872m ($1.18bn) concession agreement with Metro 5 for a 7km extension of Line 5 on the Milan underground to San Siro Stadium.
Under the new agreement, the extended line will have an additional ten stations, stretching from the Garibaldi Station/Repubblica area to San Siro Stadium.
The investment for the new stretch of underground, including design activities and civil and technological works, is being financed by the Ministry of Infrastructure, the city of Milan and private funds.
Construction is set to last for 57 months, with the works planned to be complete in time for EXPO 2015, while Metro 5 will operate the new subway stretch for 25 years and 7 months, with revenues anticipated at over €1,300m ($1.77bn).
