JV Secures Indian State Metro Project Work

A joint venture between Afcons Infrastructure and Russia's Transtonnelstroy has received two construction orders worth $567m for the Chennai metro project in Tamil Nadu, India.

The joint venture will build parts of a metro rail network and two underground stations in Chennai.

The 8.6km Chennai Metro Project will be implemented in phases and will feature nine underground stations.

Phase one involves two corridors under construction, one from Meddavaram to St Thomas Mount, and another from Madhavaram to Lighthouse through Radhakrishnan Salai.

Construction is likely to begin in mid-February 2011 and will be complete by April 2015.
