Axion International has secured a $15m three-year contract with a Class 1 railroad in the US.
Under the deal, the unnamed railroad will buy a minimum of $5m of Axion's composite railroad ties a year.
The railroad ties will be made from Axion's recycled structural composite, a proprietary product made from 100% recycled plastic.
The ties will be used for track throughout the US, primarily as a replacement for aging wood ties, and will be inert and contain no toxic materials.
Axion noted that the Class 1 railroad market is looking for long-term economical alternatives to wood and concrete.
