US State Unveils New Light Rail Station

04 February 2011

New Jersey Transit has opened the new 8th Street Station in Bayonne in the US state of New Jersey, which is part of the new one-mile extension of the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail service.

The expansion of the light rail system from its previous southern terminus at 22nd Street to 8th Street in Bayonne was carried out by George Harms Construction.

The $100m-project included design and construction of foundations, viaduct structure, track work, intersection improvements, a new station building, landscaping, lighting and customer amenities.

The project received funding from federal and state sources.

The new 8th Street Station will connect riders to Waterfront destinations, New Jersey Transit rail and bus services, trans-Hudson ferries and PATH trains, and also expands a vital north-south transportation option for Hudson County and the region.
