UK Seeks Proposals for New Trams

03 February 2011

Transport for London (TfL), through its subsidiary Tramtrack Croydon, is seeking proposals from companies to supply ten trams for the London Tramlink network that covers Croydon and Wimbledon.

TfL plans to run more tram services along the route by leasing trams, which would help boost the frequency of services on the route between central Croydon and Elmers End.

A final deal is subject to funding, with the London Borough of Croydon intending to contribute to the cost of the trams.

The invitation to bid has been issued in the Official Journal of the European Union, as required by EU regulations.

Bids will be received until 21 February and trams are expected to be delivered by the end of 2011.
