Alstom has secured a contract from Dutch rail fleet maintenance firm NedTrain for the design and manufacture of 161 Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) traction systems for 81 regional trains.
The €36m ($49.4m) contract covers the replacement of the existing Gate Turn Off transistor traction converter by an advanced IGBT traction converter, and also includes the replacement of the traction motors.
The design, production and commissioning of the traction systems will be carried out by Alstom at its site in Ridderkerk, the Netherlands, while the traction motors will be manufactured in Ornans, France.
The newly equipped trains will come into service in January 2012 on the Dutch Railway network.
