Modon Considers Study for Rail Network

01 February 2011

Saudi Industrial Property Authority (Modon) has signed an agreement with a global logistics services provider to conduct a study for the possibility of linking industrial cities in Saudi Arabia by a railway.

The study will explore the possibility of utilising trains for land freight in the industrial cities and to activate the railway lines for the transport of various products to domestic markets in different regions in Saudi Arabia, which will be linked with a railway track in the future.

The study will also provide adequate information for building new ports in some industrial cities.

Furthermore, the study will identify the importance of diversification of means of transportation in the freight sector and its impact on the economy and development in general, as well as the environmental impacts.

The Consulting Office will study the first and targeted phase in this project for three months, which includes Riyadh 2nd Industrial City, Dammam 1st and 2nd Industrial cities, Jeddah 1st and 2nd Industrial cities and Ar'ar Industrial City.
