Syria Plans Rail Projects

01 February 2011

Syria has revealed key joint rail projects with the private sector for the rehabilitation of the region's railway network.

The project includes a railway connecting al-Hijaz Station in Damascus to Damascus International Airport, which includes the construction of an electric double railway.

The project, worth about $233m, will link the Syrian-Jordanian borders, and will be connected with Europe and Turkey to the north and the Arab Gulf and Yemen to the east.

A Damascus Subway Project, to be carried out by the private sector, is estimated to cost $1.5bn, and will run from al-Moaddamiya Station to al-Hijaz.
