A joint venture (JV) between Larson & Toubro, Alstom Transport and Alstom Projects India has won a INR4.49bn ($98m) contract to design and construct tracks for the Chennai Metro Rail project in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
Under the deal, the JV will design and build tracks for corridors I and II and construct a depot at Koyembedu.
The track work consists of a 109km route, including 15km inside the depot at Koyembedu.
Metro Rail has selected a standard gauge system for the tracks.
The contract is awarded by Chennai Metro Rail, a joint venture between the state government and the Indian Government to set up a $3.06bn metro rail facility in Chennai.
Of the 45km, 24km is underground track and 21km is elevated track.
Corridor I includes the 23.1km Washermanpet-airport track, while the 22km corridor II runs from Chennai Central to St Thomas Mount.
