Network Rail has invited tenders for the design of works planned on the north-east section of the Crossrail route, between Stratford in east London and Shenfield in Essex.
The works include the design of major station improvements at Romford and Ilford and general station improvements along the rest of the 25km route at Goodmayes, Forest Gate, Harold Wood, Gidea Park, Chadwell Heath and Brentwood.
Other works will include various infrastructure improvements including extra train stabling capacity and turnback facilities in order to improve the reliability of passenger services.
The suppliers being considered for the invitation to tender include Atkins, Tata Steel UK Rail Consultancy and Amey OWR, according to Network Rail.
When fully operational, Crossrail will provide 12 trains an hour on the Great Eastern Main Line at peak times in each direction between central London and Shenfield.
