Bombardier Transportation has received a $485m order from Deutsche Bahn (DB) for the delivery of 137 of its Twindexx 2010 double-deck coaches and 27 Traxx P160 AC locomotives.
The contract involves the delivery of Twindexx double-deck cab cars and intermediate coaches with high/low-floor entrance, as part of two agreements signed in 2000 and 2008.
The latest order marks the first deal received by Bombardier from DB for the delivery of Twindexx double-deck coaches for long-distance routes in the DB regional network, though its double-deck coaches were in operation on the other routes.
The coaches feature carpeted floors, numerous power outlets, air conditioning systems, electronic seat reservation, LED lighting, loudspeakers and amplifiers as well as electronic displays for multi-language information.
They will be built in Germany at Bombardier's site in Görlitz, while the bogies will be built in Siegen.
The final assembly of the locomotives will take place at Bombardier's site in Kassel and the entire rolling stock is expected to enter service at the end of 2013.
