Luxembourg Railways (CFL) has awarded a contract worth more than €13m ($16.86m) to Alstom Transport for the installation of its Atlas ERTMS signalling system on the third and final portion of its fleet.
The contract covers the installation of the system on 19 locomotives and 22 double-deck electric multiple units.
CFL said under a deal worth over €30m ($38.9m), its entire fleet of more than 100 trains will operate with Alstom’s ERTMS Level 1 system.
The Atlas systems will be manufactured at Alstom's sites in Charleroi, Belgium and Villeurbanne, France, and the newly equipped trains will come into service from 2012 on the Luxembourg, French and Belgian networks.
The Atlas system leads to more fluid traffic and optimal frequencies, ensures passenger safety and promises more interoperability throughout the European network, according to Alstom.
