Preliminary Work on Bangalore Metro Begins

12 January 2011

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation has begun preliminary work on phase II of the Namma Metro project in the Indian state of Karnataka, following government approval.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has commenced soil testing for the 70km second phase, expected to be worth INR180bn ($3.96bn).

The second phase of the project will include a new rail line connecting Nagavara through Shivajinagar and Cantonment railway station.

Drilling for soil testing and radial alignment has commenced, following which a decision on whether to opt for an underground or elevated rail network will be made.

After the soil testing, a detailed project report will be submitted for DMRC's approval, according to deccanherald.com.
