Ansaldo Wins Denmark City Metro Line Deal

11 January 2011

Finmeccanica unit Ansaldo has secured a €700m ($903m) contract to build a metro line in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The driverless line, Cityringen, will be underground, automated and will extend for 16km, connecting 17 stations.

Under the contract, Ansaldo will plan and construct power and communications systems, platform-edge doors, signalling, carriages, and a depot and control centre.

The deal also includes operation and maintenance for five years, with the option for a further three years.

The carriages will be supplied by AnsaldoBreda, which is also part of the Finmeccanica Group.

The project is estimated at $2.86bn and the line will begin operation in 2018.
