A high-speed railway connecting Beijing and Shanghai, worth about CNY220.9bn ($33.5bn), will begin operation ahead of schedule in June.
Construction of the railway commenced in April 2008 and was originally scheduled to start operation in 2012.
China plans to spend RMB700bn ($106bn) on its railway infrastructure in 2011, according to the Ministry of Railways.
The country plans to start construction of 70 railway projects this year in order to have 42 high-speed railways with a total length of 13,000km by 2012, and more than 16,000km by 2020.
As of September 2010, China has the world's longest high-speed railway network with about 7,431km of routes in service, including 1,995km of rail lines with top speeds of 350km/h.
