The railway unit of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has won orders worth INR11.02bn ($246.8m) from power plant developers in India for the construction of rail lines to link power plants to the main railway network.
The INR3.6bn ($80.2m) order from Maithon Power, a joint venture of Tata Power and Damodar Valley Corporation, includes the construction of a 21km rail link to the power plant at Maithon in Jharkhand.
The INR2.7bn ($60m) order from Nabha Power, a subsidiary of L&T Power Development, is for the construction of a 13km double-track electrified rail link to its power plant at Rajpura in Punjab.
BALCO has awarded L&T a 1.5bn ($33.6m) order to augment and strengthen its existing railway facilities at Korba in Chhattisgarh.
L&T's unit has also secured orders worth 3.1bn ($70.67m) from Sterlite Energy to further enhance its railway facilities that are already under implementation at Jharsuguda in Orissa.
The projects involve carrying out detailed layout and structural designs, obtaining statutory approvals, activities like earth work in embankment, construction of various types of bridges including rail flyovers, and signalling.
The orders will be carried out by the Rail Infra Division, a part of L&T's railway business unit in Faridabad, on a design, build and lump sum turnkey basis.
