Siemens Delivers Electrification for Saudi City Metro

23 December 2010

Siemens has completed electrification of phase one of the Mashaaer Mugaddassah Metro Project (MMMP) in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

The project consists of an 18km double track, which was electrified in order to interlink Arafat with Muzdalifah and Min-Jamarat by a heavy metro system.

Siemens has delivered the power supply system, traction substations and the entire overhead cable system for the project, which will reduce travel times for pilgrims between the holy sites.

MMMP achieved partial operation last year and will operate at full capacity during the next Hajj season.
