The US Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Ohio Rail Development Commission have signed an agreement which finalised the release of $98m for improvements to the National Gateway Freight Rail Project in Ohio, US.
The corridor project will allow double-stacked trains to move from north-west Ohio through Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Maryland.
The improvements will help complete the first corridor of the $842m project being delivered by CSX Transportation.
The National Gateway Initiative will also increase freight capacity and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fuel usage, as well as shorten transport times and expand access to rail services, according to the DOT.
