WSP Group, Jacobs Engineering Win UK Station Contract

20 December 2010

WSP Group and Jacobs Engineering have secured design contracts to redevelop London Bridge station in London, UK.

The company will completely rebuild the station under the 16-month contract due to begin in 2012.

It will also involve the creation of additional concourse spaces, interchange between trains, buses and other modes of transport and the capacity for longer and more frequent trains at the station.

Jacobs Engineering will complete the outline design of the railway systems including track, signalling, telecoms and associated power supplies, in a bid to accommodate more metro frequency services on the Thameslink routes through the station.

The major upgrades are intended to reduce congestion at the station and provide greater journey opportunities for passengers on Thameslink services, according to Network Rail.

The contracts form part of the second phase of the ВЈ5.5bn ($8.59bn) Thameslink programme, due for completion by 2018.
