UK County Opens Eco Railway Station

14 December 2010

An eco railway station in Accrington in the UK county of Lancashire officially opened last week.

The sustainable station features solar panels, cycle parking facilities, improvements to the car park, a footbridge and a learning centre.

County Councillor Tim Ashton said future developments will link the station to other transport networks including pedestrian and cycle routes, a proposed bus interchange and local road networks linked to the Park and Ride scheme.

The building received an 'A' rating for its Energy Performance Certificate and has received an excellent rating from Building Research Establishment - Environmental Assessment Methodology.

The ВЈ2m ($3m) project received funds from Lancashire County Council, Hyndburn Borough Council, Network Rail and the European Regional Development Funding Interreg IVB programme.
