UK-based Kilfrost has received an order for its Rail Plus product from Network Rail, which will be trialled across the Wessex line from the west of England to London Waterloo.
Kilfrost Rail Plus is a monopropylene glycol-based fluid providing protection against temperatures lower than -25В°C and is designed to protect electrified third rails from frost, snow and ice.
Sprayed directly onto the third rail, the product adheres to the rail surface, offering efficient resistance, thereby protecting the track and other metal infrastructure from corrosion, according to Kilfrost.
The product has been tested at the University of Birmingham and has been found to successfully protect third rail systems from problems caused by frost and snow.
