Leighton Holdings subsidiary John Holland has been selected as the preferred proponent for the management of the country regional network (CRN) by the Australian state of New South Wales.
The A$1.5bn (US$1.4bn) deal will be concluded on 17 December 2010.
The contract includes the operation, management, maintenance and upgrade of country railway lines across NSW, including 2,700km of operational freight and passenger lines and 3,100km of non-operational lines.
John Holland will also deliver railway asset management services, including network operations, signalling, structures and major periodic maintenance.
The ten-year CRN contract will commence in late 2011 and will end by 2021.
