Crossrail Commences Train Procurement Process

06 December 2010

UK’s Crossrail has begun the procurement process to purchase rolling stock and depot facilities for the Crossrail route, with a capital cost of £1bn ($1.558bn).

To deliver Crossrail services to the 37 stations along the route, around 60 trains capable of carrying up to 1,500 passengers need to be purchased.

Crossrail said the rolling stock and depot facilities will be funded by private finance, arranged through supplier bids.

Crossrail will be a high frequency metro system with about 24 trains an hour between Paddington and Whitechapel during peak hours.
