A 866km passenger rail line from Changchun in north-east China's Jilin Province to the Russian port city of Vladivostok opened last week.
The railway stretches about 574km in China and 292km in Russia with a total travel time of about 16h and 30min.
Discussions about a freight rail line in the region are also underway, aiming to develop an international land and sea transportation channel connecting Mongolia, Japan and South Korea, according to People's Daily Online.
