TriMet could approve the first resolutions to start construction of the $1.5bn Portland-Milwaukie MAX light-rail line in the US state of Oregon.
The public agency's board will vote on 8 December on the project's six resolutions, worth $365m, of which $219m will authorise the purchase of rights of way for the rail route.
A second $127m resolution would authorise contracts to build a new transit bridge over the Willamette River, while another $4m would be allocated to increase the design contract for the new bridge to $7.1m.
Other resolutions would authorise $9m to purchase rights of way from the Union Pacific railroad, $1.4m to rebuild Southwest Moody Street in Portland and about $900,000 to manage properties acquired for the project.
The board will also consider resolutions to authorise bonds worth $525m, which include federal bonds by Metro council, TriMet’s payroll tax bonds and interim financing bonds, according to clackamasreview.com.
The Portland-Milwaukie light rail project would run 7.3 miles, connecting Portland State University in downtown Portland to Milwaukie and north Clackamas county.
The service is scheduled to begin in 2015 and is expected to transport more than 27,000 passengers a day by 2030.
