Ansaldo Wins Australian Rail System Deal

Ansaldo STS Australia has signed a contract with Rio Tinto to provide rail systems for the company's iron ore operations in Pilbara, Australia.

Under the A$467m (US$452m) contract, Ansaldo will provide signalling, communications, train control and automation systems over the next five years to support Rio Tinto's expansion in the region.

The planned projects, to be performed on demand, include the introduction of electronically controlled pneumatic braking, direct locomotive control, automatic train operations and enhanced signalling, train control and communication systems.
