UK Rail Station Improving Passenger Facilities

22 November 2010

A footbridge at Ipswich railway station in Suffolk, UK, has been put into place as part of a national scheme to make rail stations more accessible.

Network Rail said the footbridge will give passengers better access to the station’s entrance and its four platforms.

Two lifts, fitted with closed-circuit television and telephone links, will also be installed on either side of the footbridge, along with new lighting and CCTV systems and tactile paving on the platforms.

The facilities are expected to be complete by 2011.

Network Rail is managing and delivering the improvements, which are being funded by the Department for Transport's £370m ($592.8m) Access for All scheme for station accessibility improvements.
