Industrial action planned on 19 November by 478 train driver members from Arriva Trains Wales (ATW) belonging to Britain's ASLEF union has been suspended.
This follows continuous negotiations between the union and the train company, which led to a series of commitments that union representatives believe is the basis for a settlement.
The union had previously planned strike action beginning 19 November which was expected to coincide with Wales' rugby test with Fiji at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.
It is likely that the planned 26-27 November strikes will be cancelled when both the parties meet again early next week to tie up details of a new, improved offer from the company.
Final acceptance of the offer will be put to the union membership in a ballot, as is the practice within ASLEF before any deal is finally approved.
