A consortium involving Bombardier Transportation and Alstom Transport has received the go-ahead to supply 468 metro cars for 52 nine-car trainsets in Canada.
The consortium signed a C$1.19bn (US$1.18bn) contract with Canadian transit operator Société de transport de Montréal (STM) on 22 October.
Bombardier's share in the contract is C$719m (US$715m) and Alstom's share is C$471m (US$468m).
The design, manufacture and final assembly of the metro cars will be carried out at Bombardier's facilities in La Pocatière and Saint-Bruno in Québec, and at Alstom's sites in Sorel-Tracy and Montréal.
The first prototype train will be delivered in June 2013, followed by base order deliveries between February 2014 and September 2018.
