Network Rail Reveals Station Upgrade Plans

18 November 2010

Network Rail has unveiled plans to develop and build a 220m balcony along the first-floor concourse of Waterloo station in London, UK, in a bid to ease congestion.

The balcony, to be accessible by escalators, lifts and stairs, is expected to improve connections between Waterloo East and Waterloo mainline stations, according to Network Rail.

Network Rail will also look at options to improve passenger ticketing facilities to meet future capacity needs.

The existing retailing facilities will be moved next to the balcony to provide passengers more space on the concourse.

Network Rail said it will complete the project by 2012.
