Canada Unveils Cobourg Station Design

17 November 2010

VIA Rail Canada has unveiled designs for upgrading and expanding its rail station in Cobourg in the Canadian province of Ontario.

The C$9m (US$8.9m) upgrade will add an island boarding platform, connected by an overhead footbridge complex serviced by elevators and stairs, and a passenger drop-off and pick-up area.

VIA Rail said the facilities will harmonise with the station's architecture, and will be based on concepts from local professionals, with the approval of Parks Canada.

Construction will begin this year, and the project will receive C$1m (US$991,670) in funding from the Canadian Government.

The Cobourg plans represent a total investment of about C$33.8m.
