US-based industrial services company Harsco Corporation has received two railway equipment orders from China, worth about $11m.
The orders are from major rapid transit system operators in China for rail grinders for delivery in 2011.
The units will be used to maintain rail profiles for efficient travel at higher speeds and to remove surface defects, thereby extending rail life while allowing less fuel consumption.
Harsco Rail said it has developed a configuration specifically for the metro market which includes fully integrated, on-board diagnostics to simplify maintenance and minimise downtime in high-volume rapid transit roles.
The 20-stone designation refers to the number of grinding heads, each of which can be individually aligned to restore precise rail profiles.
Production includes major order from China's Ministry of Railways for more than 40 rail grinders.
