US Metrorail Extension to be Complete by 2012

12 November 2010

The $526m Metrorail extension in Miami, Florida, US, will be complete by April 2012, ahead of its original schedule.

Operator Miami-Dade Transit said most of the work for the supporting columns of the elevated guideway is nearing completion, and work is underway on installing guideway segments for support.

The 2.4-mile airport link runs from Earlington Heights station to the Miami Intermodal Center (MIC), adjacent to Miami International Airport.

An automated train MIA Mover will connect transport airport passengers to the MIC.

The airport link will receive $426m from the state while the Florida Department of Transportation will contribute the remaining $100m, according to miamiherald.com.
