The US state of Wisconsin has signed an agreement confirming the use of an $810m federal grant for the development of a high-speed intercity passenger rail line between Milwaukee and Madison.
The line will form part of the 3,000-mile Midwest Regional Rail Corridor, which will serve nine states.
Work on the line is expected to begin soon while passenger services will commence by 2013, according to the Associated Press.
The state has already spent $52.2m of the federal grant for the preliminary design of the stations and rail corridor.
