Deutsche Bahn has extended the bidding deadline to submit pre-qualification documents for consultancy services for the preliminary design of the Doha metro project in Qatar.
The bidding deadline for companies for the €2bn ($2.8bn) project had previously been set for 2 November, but has been extended to 9 November 2010.
Once complete, the 300km metro network with 98 stations will have four lines. Red line, stretching from the city of Doha to the New Doha International airport, will come under the first phase.
In 2009, the German national rail operator signed a $25bn joint-venture contract with Qatar to build rail and underground lines in Qatar and Bahrain, according to steelguru.com.
The contract will create a new company called the Qatar Railways Development Company, with both Deutsche Bahn and Qatari Diar managing the design and construction work for all Qatar's metro and rail projects.
Doha metro is the first part of the JV contract and also includes a freight rail link between Ras Laffan and Mesaieed ports.
