UK Tube Strike Causes Disruption

04 November 2010

Maintenance workers of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union and the Transport Salaried Staffs Association held a third strike on 2 November on the London Underground.

The 24-hour strike was held in two waves: engineering staff started their strike from 7pm while operational staff walked out at 9pm.

The strike caused delays on the capital's major tube lines.

The strikes were in response to London Underground's proposed 800 job cuts. Both unions urged London Underground to suspend the cuts and claimed the plan would threaten passenger safety.

The strike was the third of four planned strikes. The final one is scheduled for 28 and 29 November.
