Nine Out of Ten British Trains on Schedule Last Month

Almost 93% of services on Britain's railway ran on time between 19 September to 16 October 2010, according to new figures.

The figures were released by Network Rail in its regular monthly report revealing the performance of 19 operators.

c2c Rail was the most punctual, showing 98.1% punctuality with a moving annual average of 96.7%.

Ten operators saw their performance improve or remain unchanged compared with the same period last year, with First Scotrail seeing the biggest improvement, up to 93.6% from 91.6% last year.

The rest of the operators reported marginal movements in performance, while only two, Merseyrail and Southeastern, saw a dip in punctuality of more than three percentage points.

The moving annual average for Merseyrail is 96%, but the operator's performance fell to 93.9% this year compared with 97.2% in the same period in 2009.
