London Underground and BT Openzone launched a six-month Wi-Fi service trial at Charing Cross station in the UK this week.
The Wi-Fi service has been funded by UK-based British Telecommunications (BT).
The service will be available in the ticket hall area and on the Northern and Bakerloo line platforms and will offer free Transport for London (TfL) service updates to all users including non-BT customers.
TfL said passengers with a Wi-Fi-enabled device such as a smartphone, laptop, netbook or tablet computer will be able to access wireless networks when they are on the Tube train.
The trial service is free for BT customers, while O2, Tesco Mobile, Vodafone, Orange and other Wi-Fi-enabled devices can also use the BT Openzone network as part of their contract.
