US County Projects Receive Planning Approval

02 November 2010

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) Board in the US has approved the draft environmental impact report and route for the two mile $1.24bn regional connector (RC) project.

The board also approved the locally preferred alternatives (LPA) route for the $4.2bn , nine-mile Westside Subway project running between the Wilshire / Western Metro Purple Line Terminus to Westwood / VA Hospital, eliminating the 5th / Flower Station.

Both the projects will now enter the preliminary engineering and final environmental review phase, which will be carried over a period of a year. < p>

The board requested that metro report if there was interest in having the private sector fund the 5th / Flower Station at the December board meeting.

Following the environmental review process, the metro board will decide the project that will ultimately be built utilising local and federal funds.
