The Brussels transport company Société des Transports Intercommunaux de Bruxelles (STIB) in Belgium will purchase 65 bi-directional Bombardier Flexity Outlook trams.
The €170m ($235m) order will have 46 32m-long trams and 19 43m-long trams, equipped with the company's MITRAC propulsion and control system.
Delivery of the 100%-low-floor trams is scheduled for between January 2013 and the end of April 2015.
The vehicles will be built at Bombardier's facility in Bruges, Belgium, while the bogies will be produced at the Siegen facility in Germany.
Canada-based Bombardier received the first order from STIB for 46 Flexity Outlook trams in October 2003.
The first option order for a further 22 vehicles in 2005, the second follow-on order in 2008 for 87 vehicles and the latest order for 65 vehicles brings the total number of trams ordered from Bombardier for Brussels to 220 trams.
STIB serves the 19 municipalities of the Brussels-Capital Region and 11 other outlying municipalities.
