Bombardier Transportation will supply 288 metro coaches to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in India by 2011.
DMRC plans to introduce a few six-coach trains by early next year to expand its fleet, and will run a total of 89 six-coach trains, which can accommodate 1,800 to 2,100 passengers per trip.
DMRC has signed an INR 29,840m ($671.5m) agreement with Bombardier for phase II of its project, which involves the supply of 538 broad gauge metro coaches in the next two years, of which 250 have already been delivered.
The coaches will be manufactured at Bombardier’s manufacturing unit in Gujarat and will be delivered after the completion of mandatory tests and trials, according to hindustantimes.com.
