Term: Embedded Rail Systems

Definition:

An embedded rail system does not use traditional steel fixings to secure the rail, instead a recess is cut in the ground and the rail laid within it. The recess is then filled in with elastic embedding material. The rails sit flush to the ground making emergerncy access easier and due to the elastic embedding material, embedded rail systems are quieter.
