Term: Bi-directional Signalling


Definition:

A signalling system for two way working. Bi-directional signalling is useful in releasing a single track of a two-track railway for maintenance. It is used to permit trains to run in either direction over the same section of track subject to the built-in safety systems which prevent collisions.
