Tape Replaces Liquid Adhesive for Rolling Stock Refurbishment

Abstract

3M, a diversified technology company worth $22.9 billion, creates innovative products that help make the world smarter, faster, healthier and safer. Now an increased focus on the rail sector is delivering a host of industry-specific products and service offerings, including a solution to the problems of refurbishing the UK's High Speed Trains (HSTs).

These problems have included the difficulty of bonding metals that have been powder-coated, usually requiring painstaking masking where components join. Bonding before powder-coating can also result in a poor finish quality if any adhesive seeps out from the joins.

VHB tape, from 3M, has a number of advantages over liquid adhesives. It provides an instant bond, so there is no risk of components slipping during cure, and also means that Solo does not need to devote space in its factory to fully assembled curing and cured parts.

VHB tape from 3M has helped Britain's High Speed Trains (HSTs) roll on into another decade. Please download this free white paper to find out more.
