Zonegreen Offers 'Safety First' Service for Depot Personnel Protection Systems (DPPS)

03 February 2010

Leading UK-based rail safety company Zonegreen is urging SMART DPPS users to take advantage of Zonegreen's specialist 'Safety First' service contracts, in a drive to promote safety, reduce system downtime and maximise the lifespan of equipment.

Christian Fletcher, technical director of the company — which is the original developer and sole manufacturer of the SMART DPPS — explained: "Because of the safety critical nature of the equipment, it's important to have a total system check at least once per year.

Zonegreen's engineers are best placed to carry out this maintenance because they are not only qualified in electronics and software, but also have recognised certificates in reliability and functional safety, safety management and electromagnetic compatibility.

The SMART DPPS is installed in numerous UK traincare depots — including the Eurostar Temple Mills Engineering Depot in London — as well as a growing number of overseas depots. It is acknowledged to be the most robust and reliable system available, and the most user-friendly.

However any system can fail if not properly maintained, and we would urge depot managers to take advantage of Zonegreen's expertise to ensure safety, efficiency and reliability over the long-term. Our engineers know these systems inside out."

A 'Safety First' service consists of checking all the items detailed in the manufacturer’s manual for the specific type of service being undertaken. The maintenance technician will also lubricate all mechanical-electrical working parts that are directly accessible and carry out necessary adjustments.

At the end of the service, a handwritten report will be issued, followed soon after by a more formal report detailing any recommendations for repair.

Customers that enter into a 'Safety First' service contract with Zonegreen will also benefit from reduced hourly rates for reactive maintenance, as well as access to unrivalled technical support and call-out facilities.
